I just posted a comment in Picasa Web Albums in Bulgarian, and it was automatically translated in English. Good work, Google!

Finally I decided to move from Windows XP SP3 to Windows Vista 64-bit, mostly due to fact that I’ve got 8GB of memory, and XP only sees 3.2 of them! Now, I had to chose 64-bit Vista to achieve this, which leaded me to another pitfall which I shall discuss another time.
What I’m speaking now is that I immediately noticed one major difference in OS behaviour - Vista is using my hard disk drive almost all the time. I assume its doing some indexing or defragmenting, or some optimization, but it’s really annoying! I had to stop it.
Here are the Windows services which I stoped and put in Manual startup mode:
After doing that my Vista installation behaves as a regular XP one - my hard disk stays cool and quite. A side note: I have disabled Windows Defender from its Options settings before stopping it, and I’m doing so because I have better antivirus and anti-spyware solution installed.

I’ve had an account at Pownce, but really none of my friends were there, the site seams to be complicated with lots of things to set up etc, so finally I came across this post, explaining exactly what I was thinking. I went to Identi.ca web site and I saw I could register by just using my OpenID. Wow, done in 60 seconds! Nice site, nice interface, simple to use. In next minute my Pownce profile was deleted. Hello, Identi.ca - hello, microblogging!

I bet you’ve heard of IMDB! And if you watch movies on your PC or laptop you’ve had fought with subtitles searching, translating and/or synchronizing’em with your movie. Now, you have OSDB which gives you the simplicity of the searching. Check out the www.opensubtitles.org for more details.
By the way, the latest MySE version 2.3.1 supports OSDB protocol as well.

A nice tool for editing (not creating) PC subtitles; which are used for watching DivX movies, for example, is named MySE which stands for My Subtitles Editor. It is a newbie, so expect no rich features set, but still give it a try. And you will be surprised for sure! Download MySE from here.

If you’re looking for a package to build your own OpenID server, and you want to link it to your LDAP server, here is what 5Group says:
“Good news to all OpenID fans! We have used phpMyID script 0.7 as a basis and tuned it up to provide multi-user support with LDAP database as a backend, added some more stuff and so the OpenID-LDAP was born starting with version 0.8.”

I just created an OpenID provider for my personal account using phpMyID. OpenID eliminates the need for multiple usernames across different websites, simplifying your online experience. You get to choose the OpenID Provider that best meets your needs and most importantly that you trust. At the same time, your OpenID can stay with you, no matter which Provider you move to. And best of all, the OpenID technology is not proprietary and is completely free.
OpenID is an open, decentralized, free framework for user-centric digital identity. OpenID takes advantage of already existing internet technology (URI, HTTP, SSL, Diffie-Hellman) and realizes that people are already creating identities for themselves whether it be at their blog, photostream, profile page, etc. With OpenID you can easily transform one of these existing URIs into an account which can be used at sites which support OpenID logins.
OpenID is still in the adoption phase and is becoming more and more popular, as large organizations like AOL, Microsoft, Sun, Novell, etc. begin to accept and provide OpenIDs. Today it is estimated that there are over 160-million OpenID enabled URIs with nearly ten-thousand sites supporting OpenID logins. Microsoft and Google Both Ship OpenID. I already used my account with Novo20 Real News website.

Hmm. ATI’s Crossfire architecture is same as NVidia’a SLI. Still I am wondering whether two mid-range graphic cards in Crossfire mode will perform better than single high-end range card. So far, I have tested two ATI X1650 cards with Crossfire on and off. Now, I am waiting for ATI HD2600XT card to arrive in order to complete the tests. I shall post the results shortly. The unseen question here is whether SLI is better than Crossfire?
